Extra Credit Screening- Where the Wild Things Are

I went to the Pearl to see Where the Wild Things Are. I was so excited to see one of my favorite childhood books come to life on the big screen. The story is about a child named Max who has a very active imagination. He runs away from home wearing his wolf costume and he lets his imagination run wild. His imagination takes him to a different world an ocean away that is inhabited by large wild beasts and he befriends them and becomes their king and claims he can magically solve all of their problems.

Overall, I thought it was very well done. The costumes, set, and CSI work were all incredible. It was a cute story and I really enjoyed watching it. However, when it was over I found myself feeling as though something was missing, but, I can’t put my finger on exactly what it was that I felt was missing. Maybe it was because I had such high hopes for the movie to blow me away and in all honestly I wasn’t blown away. However, overall I did enjoy it. I think if I didn’t have such high hopes for the movie, I would have been even more impressed with it.

Extra Credit Screening- Precious

I went to The Pearl to see Precious. I was very excited to see it because I thought it looked very powerful. I really appreciate movies that make you feel a certain emotion and make you look at life with a different perspective. After waiting in line fore twenty minutes to see the 8:30 showing of the film, we got to the front of the line and found out it was sold out. We still wanted to see it so we bought tickets for the next showing, which was at 10:00. We got there at around 9:30 to make sure we got seats. It was so crowded that we waited almost an hour to get into the actual theater. They had to open another theater and show the movie in there too to accommodate all of the guests. The movie finally started about 20 minutes late. It was a good movie, but I found myself feeling depressed and I couldn’t wait for the movie to be over because I was so upset by it. However, I think it is important to sit through movies like that because it gives you a different perspective on life.

Extra Credit- Screening of “Up in the Air”

I went to The Ritz to see the movie Up in the Air with my Writing for Media class this past Wednesday. I had never been to The Ritz before. I really enjoyed seeing a movie there because it is a nice, small, and intimate theater. The previews that they showed before the movie were previews that would not be shown at a regular theater. They were mostly indie films and if I didn’t see the previews for them there, I probably would never have heard of them. They all looked like really good and interesting films.

I really enjoyed the movie itself. George Clooney played Ryan Bingham, a traveling businessman whose job is firing people. He lives out of a suitcase and loves every second of his nomad life. His boss hires a young girl named Natalie who develops a method of video conferencing that allows the firing to without leaving the office, thus threatening the existence of Ryan’s traveling career that he loves so much. A determined Ryan takes Natalie cross-country to show her what he does and to show her the reason why firing of people in person is necessary. While traveling with Ryan, she begins to realize the negatives that come with her new profession. “Up in the air”, Ryan meets a woman named Alex who has a similar traveling job. The two meet up throughout the film during their travels and Ryan seems to really consider settling down with her for the first time in his life. His job has caused him to disconnect from his family and what is really important in life.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie. It was a good story and it was well written and was told well visually. I also really enjoyed watching it at the Ritz. It was an enjoyable experience.

I helped out Gabe and Adam with their final documentary project. I met up with them for an interview they had scheduled with a professor in Gladfelter Hall. I helped Adam and Gabe set up the camera and background set for the interview. As the interview went on, I listened to it through head phones to make sure the audio was being recorded well. I also made sure the interview subject was always in the frame. There were a few times I had to move the camera slightly because he moved around a lot. I was pretty much a assistant for anything that they needed me to do.
